Size & Wight
The new version gained a small amount of weight and body size, there is a good reason for this. The 8 Plus comes with a glass rear panel, whereas, the 7 Plus had an aluminium rear panel. It is the addition of the glass rear panel that adds weight as well as a tiny bit size to the phone.
On paper the display screen spec is exactly the same, apart from the ever so slightly smaller screen to body ratio on the 8 Plus, which isn’t even visible to the naked eye. There is one software function that does set the display screens apart, and that is the true tone display option on the 8 Plus. The true tone display option will give you better viewing options at all angles and slightly enhance the picture.
The 8 Plus has the new A11 Bionic processor. This process has been getting rave reviews as well as setting some outstanding benchmark scores. This process vastly improves the performance of the 8 Plus and makes it an overall faster and snappier phone than the 7 Plus.
RAM & Storage
Both phones have the same amount of RAM, but what has changed is the built-in storage options. The 7 Plus has better storage options than the 8 Plus. You are now limited to either 64 GB or 256 GB model with no option for adding a micro SD card.
On paper the cameras are pretty much identical, with the only difference being in the rear camera which can shoot 4K video at 60 frames per second and 1080p video at 240 frames per second in the 8 Plus. Another interesting feature of the rear camera is that it now has a larger and faster sensor, this allows more light into the lens which results in crisper and sharper photos. This will appeal to those who need to take the absolute best pictures and videos.
Although the battery capacity has been reduced in the 8 Plus, it still delivers similar performance in terms of battery life. It is able to do this thanks to the more efficient A11 processor. The new A11 processor drains less of the battery resources, and therefore gives a low capacity battery similar battery life to the 2900 mAh battery in the 7 Plus.
8 Plus comes with the latest iOS 11 right out of the box, however, the 7+ is able to upgrade to this version as well.
Other Information About The 8 Plus
It now comes with the latest Bluetooth 5.0. This means you will get better range as well as higher data transfer speeds and the ability to connect multiple devices via Bluetooth.
Although the speaker was excellent in the 7 Plus, it has been further improved in this latest version. The speaker is now 25% louder which will greatly help improve watching videos and listening to music.
Apple has finally included Wireless charging in their new devices and it is based on the Qi standard. The phone can be charged by placing it on an inductive charging pad such as Apple’s airpower mat.
The 8 Plus now features fast charging. This will be an excellent feature for those of you who need to constantly charge a phone as you can get close to 50% battery life in only 30 minutes. However, the downside is, Apple do not supply the fast charger with the phone and this is something you have to spend extra money on.
Verdict on The iPhone 8 Plus SIM Free
If you were hoping that the 8 Plus would have some revolutionary changes that differentiate from the 7 Plus, you will be very disappointed. Design and spec wise, the phones are very similar, and the 8 Plus only has a few changes that don’t really warrant upgrading from the 7 Plus.
If you desperately need a faster phone that has wireless and fast charging, then this will be a worthwhile upgrade. However, if you’re happy with your 7 Plus and it does everything that you want, stick with it till the next version is released.
